Times of our Lives: 2010 – Christmas LPs Ain’t What They Used To Be

Of all the bands who might release a Christmas LP, Radiohead wouldn’t have even made my top 100. A joke fooled a few, including uDiscover, Universal’s online record emporium.

I raided their back catalogue to work out a few titles but came up short, mainly because I genuinely wasn’t going to waste more than two minutes of my life on it:

  • Fake Plastic Christmas Trees
  • Let Down (by Asda So It’s Burger King for Lunch)
  • No Surprises (My Presents are Shit)
  • Knives Out (It’s a Xmas Family Row)
  • The National Anthem (Liz is on Telly)

Anyway, it’s just a forewarning, more than anything else that I’ve looked through the record collection and next week sees the first of a short-lived series of posts, “Outstanding Christmas Compilations” begin. I don’t know it might be a twelve days sort of thing since Stax, Motown, Atlantic all pretty much nailed that market back in the 60s and 70s.

For today though, we’re at 2010. An unremarkable year but the timing of its’ arrival now means the planned ‘2017’ denouement may yet pan out. Enjoy.
